2000년 미국에 놀러갔을때
사촌동생이 들려준 밴드가 있었다.
K's Choice...
그 당시 Prineville에서 지역 라디오 방송에서 종종 들었던 그들의 곡이 있었다.
사실 그때는 앨범을 구할 생각은 못하고,
한국으로 돌아왔는데...
Wild Thing이라는 영화를 보니
K's Choice의 귀에 익은 노래가 삽입되어 있는게 아닌가...
남는 시간을 이용해 그 곡의 가사를 찾아보았다가 난 이 밴드에 푹 빠져버렸다.

일단 맨위 멤버 두명의 같은 성에서 추측할 수 있듯이 밴드 멤버의 주축은 Bettens 남매이다.
우리나라엔 흔하지 않은 벨기에 출신이며,
멤버 구성은 사실 아일랜드 출신 Cranberries를 떠올리게 하나 돌로레스 오리어던에 비해
부드럽고 강하지 않은 사라의 목소리가 매력적이면 서도 때때로 독특하게 들릴때가 있다.
전체적으로 내가 듣기에 서정적인 곡들이 많으며, 약간은 heavy한 기타리프가 들어간 곡도 있다.
시끄럽지 않은 곡을 좋아한다면
Song for Catherine 같은 곡을 추천해줄 수 있고,
무거운 곡을 좋아한다면
Iron Flower 같은 곡을 추천해줄 수 있으며
가벼우면서도 재미있는 곡을 좋아한다면
보너스 트랙같은 Something's Wrong을 추천해줄 수 있으며,
조금은 철학적이면서도 아이러니한 분위기를 듣고 싶으면
Not an Addict를 추천해 줄 수 있다.
내가 가진 이들의 앨범은 총 2개인데,
이는 미국의 이모의 도움을 받아서 입수할 수 있었던 것으로
우리나라에서는 아마 Almost Happy 앨범 하나만 발매 되었던 것으로 기억한다.

내가 한때 우울할때 들었던 곡인데,
내 스스로 중독되지 않았다고 외치는 모습과 내 모습이 그대로 투영되는 바람에
이 곡을 좋아하게 되었다.
아래의 가사는 어느날 갑자기 귀에 가사가 들리기 시작하며
CD의 booklet을 들여다 보지 않고도 가사를 알게 되었는데
1절의 4째줄이 귀에 들리며, 의미가 내 머리속에서 번역되면서 충격먹었다.
ㅎㅎ
이런 센스쟁이들... 잼나는 가사를 써놓다니...
참고로 싸이에 이곡의 가사를 올렸을땐 친절하게 번역을 했었으나
재미를 위해 번역 부분을 삭제하고 올려본다.
